ACTIVATE WHILE YOU ISOLATE
Physical activity is more important now than ever. With social distancing rules still in place and many activities currently on pause it can be tempting to retreat to the couch to enjoy endless hours of Netflix, but that is the opposite of what we should be doing. We should be exercising daily and taking advantage of the extra time we have now that we’re working and studying from home.
There are many reasons to keep active while in isolation, including:
1. To reduces stress. Exercise takes your mind off your worries and increases the production of endorphins, the ‘feel-good’ neurotransmitters that help to improve your overall mood.
2. To boost your immune system. The simple act of moving your body more can provide a powerful tool for fighting infection, helping you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
3. To maintain a daily routine. Don’t try to fit exercise in when you have time because chances are you won’t find it and there will be another excuse as to why you can’t do it.
4. To get out of the house and get some fresh air. We spend most of our days indoors using technology, making it easy to go days or even weeks without spending much time outdoors. It’s important to get outside and exercise as it allows you to disconnect from the demands of technology and the fresh air gives you the extra energy you’ve been needing.
5. To loosen up your body. Exercise is great if your muscles are feeling tight and inactive. It is important that you stretch prior to exercise to warm up your muscles and ensure they are prepared for the impact of the activity.
6. To give yourself a little ‘me’ time. It is important to take time for yourself occasionally. Your health is a priority so don’t feel guilty scheduling exercise into your daily routine. During this time, you will be able to focus your thoughts and really reflect.
Your health and fitness are so important and with the world changing daily we must create new patterns to maintain physical and mental fitness. The most important thing is to find time in every day to move your body and stay active.
