Nu Skin Susty
Sustainability has become an important focus for businesses around the world. There has been an increased push from consumers for products and services that cause minimal effects to the environment. According to the United Nations if the global population reaches 9.6 billion by 2050, the equivalent of almost three planets could be required to provide the natural resources needed to sustain current lifestyles[1]. Something needs to change and for many companies, like Nu Skin, sustainability is an important consideration that is changing the way business is done.
At Nu Skin, we are guided by our mission to be a Force for Good in the world. We have a long history of giving back and improving both lives and the communities where we live and work. We are proud of our efforts but are always striving to do more. Recently, we increased our efforts on sustainability and by doing so, we are taking our mission to a higher level. Our sustainability efforts rest firmly on three main pillars; product, people and planet.
1. Product: We have committed to creating recycled, recyclable, reusable, reduced and renewable packaging and product designs. Here at Nu Skin we are founded on the guiding principle, “all of the good, none of the bad” by focusing on finding the best ingredients possible for our products that are both sustainable and environmentally friendly. We recently decreased the carton size of our ageLOC LumiSpa device which saves 178 tons of paper annually, which is equivalent to approximately 3,017 trees. As we roll out both primary and secondary packaging reductions in the next three years across all our products, we anticipate saving at least 63 tons of plastic and 311 tons of paper. That’s a lot of plastic and a lot of trees! We have also already removed several unnecessary secondary packaging cartons from supplements and personal care products.
2. People: People are at the heart of our business and the centre of our Force for Good efforts. We are always looking for ways to give back and to assist global communities as they strive to become sustainable. From planting trees, building water wells, and funding the School of Agriculture for Family Independence (SAFI) and its community extension in Malawi, to our efforts with Seacology to conserve natural reserves, we’re aiming to improve our planet and support the people who inhabit it.
3. Planet: We’re committed to being good global citizens. We know we can’t do it all, but we can do our part to help preserve and protect the world we live in. At Nu Skin, we commit to building a global network of zero-waste facilities. Starting with our headquarters in Provo, we’re working to divert 90% or more of our non-hazardous waste from landfills. In our local Australian office, we have committed to this by having no single use cups or cutlery. All our paper printing for internal documents and external flyers for our sales field is done with recycled paper. A few years ago, we made the change from plastic bags to paper bags in our Experience Centre, then in the past year we have made the change from paper bags to non-woven tote bags that last much longer for better reusability. What we can’t reduce, we reuse and what we can’t reuse we recycle.
At Nu Skin we are proud to make it our mission to embrace sustainable practices today to enhance a resource-rich tomorrow. We are committed to keeping our global communities clean, safe and protected for the future. You can make a difference too. Start saying yes and changing your actions to protect the future of our environment.
