- MarineOmega provides omega-3 fatty acids from fish and krill oil. The fish oil is primary derived from anchovies, sardines and/or mackerel. Krill oil is derived from Euphausia superba, which are small shrimp- or prawn-like crustaceans. Our fish oil supplier received the Friends of the Sea (FOS) certification for sustainability and commitment to natural sources and our krill oil supplier was the first to receive the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), a certification for sustainability.
- MarineOmega is IFOS™ certified. The IFOS™ Certification, or International Fish Oil Standards, is a rigorous third-party verification program for omega-3 supplements. It ensures that the products contain the stated amounts of EPA and DHA, are free from harmful contaminants, and remain fresh and unoxidized. The certification process involves testing every production lot and publishing the results online for consumer review.

- Each daily dose of MarineOmega provides 2156 mg of fish oil, which is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and constitutes the main source of EPA and DHA in this product. Additionally, a daily dosage contains 100 mg of krill oil, which also provides some long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, including EPA and DHA. The distinctive colour of krill oil comes from astaxanthin – a red pigment.
- The main long chains of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in your diet are: EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid).The long-chain omega-3s EPA and DHA play an important role in heart health (with a daily intake of 250 mg for each). DHA also plays a role in the normal brain function and vision (with a daily intake of 250 mg). Fish is a uniquely rich source of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids. Other natural sources are human milk, cultivated marine algae, marine mammals, and krill. EPA and DHA may also be provided by food supplements complementing a normal diet.
- Omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids are different chemically, based on where the first double bond is located. These fatty acids serve as structural components of cells, as an energy source, and as signaling molecules in the body. Both types of fats are essential nutrients since the body cannot synthesise all these fats in the body. Getting the right amounts of these different fatty acids is important to our health. If you are getting too much or too little of these fats, making changes in diet or supplementation can help you get there.
- The main omega-6 obtained from diet is called linoleic acid (LA) that we get from foods like many vegetable oils. The main omega-3 obtained from diet is called α-linolenic acid (ALA) that we get from foods like flaxseed and walnuts. ALA can be converted to Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). However, the conversion is really low, so it is advisable to get these beneficial omega-3 fatty acids from fatty fish. Food supplements can also provide EPA and DHA to complement your diet.
